An enjoyable birthday carp fishing trip to Town Parks

It's my birthday today, 48 years young, oh my God, where has all the time gone?

Anyway, there's not much we can do about getting old, all we can do is make sure we enjoy as much as we can of life. And there is nothing really that I enjoy more than going for a day fishing with a really good friend. Unfortunately, my good friend was unavailable so I went fishing with Charles :-) :-).

It wasn't quite as hot today as it has been, but thankfully we managed to obtain swim number one at Town Parks. This basically meant that Charles and I wouldn't cook under the hot sun and would have some nice shade to fish in.

The carp seemed fairly active when I got there, they seem to be coming to the surface which is always quite exciting. Charles started using a bubble float with crusty tiger bread. I stuck to my favourite method of using a method feeder with a Ringer's dumbbell pellets. It became apparent that the carp were not really up for feeling that much, although the guy opposite did catch a couple of the top in a period of about 30 minutes. I then got a distinctive bite which I knew straightaway was our friend the bream. Not long after saw my quiver tip being pulled firstly around to a 90° angle. After about three minutes I landed a carp of around 6 lbs. I went on to catch another couple of skimmer bream and a small roach. Charles managed a carp around the same size of mine on floated crusty bread and also foul hooked but lost another carp.

I am a regular at Town Parks and I can absolutely vouch that the fishing is absolutely superb. When the fish are really on the feed then you can catch one after another. Some anglers have caught up to 60 carp in one session.

Town Parks is the best fishing venue in Torbay. Gerry is very accommodating and will give you all the advice you need to have a good days fishing. If you haven't got your own fishing tackle than Gerry has fishing rods and tackle for rent. Day tickets on the match lake are £10. If you own a blue badge then you can park right next to the lake which obviously makes it easy if you have mobility problems.

I live on the south-west coast of England in a small town called Brixham.  I been confined to a wheelchair 1986 after breaking my neck in a swimming pool accident.  Computers are my saviour and I spend most days doing one thing or another on my PC.  Other interests I have include angling and amateur radio.  I also run a website and forum dedicated to looking after and caring for the Oscar fish cichlid
