I live on the south-west coast of England in a small town called Brixham.  I been confined to a wheelchair 1986 after breaking my neck in a swimming pool accident.  Computers are my saviour and I spend most days doing one thing or another on my PC.  Other interests I have include angling and amateur radio.  I also run a website and forum dedicated to looking after and caring for the Oscar fish cichlid

Huge congratulations to Brixham quiz team called Abide with Me who appeared on the TV quiz show Eggheads today and actually won. Kevin was actually playing today so being able to win against him is, even more, reason to be congratulated.

You've gone to log into the admin side of your Joomla! 3.0 website and you are confronted with a white blank page. Normally when you get an error on a Joomla! website you will actually get a display on the screen of what the error is. If it's not showing you the error then it's very difficult to work out what's wrong. I found a very simple fix for this problem.

In light of the 2017 announcement of who is going to be knighted, I feel that this trend of giving knighthoods to anyone who manages to win more than one gold medal is cheapening this highest honour.
Nobody would argue that Mo Farah or Andy Murray are at the very top of their game. Both of these gentlemen have only achieved greatness within a few years. I don't know how much charity work they do, I can't imagine either of them has much time for charity work. Even so, the knighthood is a really massive award and in my opinion, should only be given to people who have really done something special for many years throughout their life.
I would actually suggest that people like David Beckham are more deserving of a knighthood than Mo Farah or Andy Murray. Bruce Forsyth had to wait 50 years for his knighthood. Ken Dodd has been going for God knows how long, he has also just been knighted, and deservedly as well.

Way back in 1983 I watched a TV drama written by Willy Russell. The five-part serial was called One Summer and starred a very young David Morrisey. There aren't many programs from way back in the early 80s that have really stuck with me, however, One Summer affected me in a different way and I have never forgotten watching it. I recently received it as a birthday present and have just watched it again for only the second time in 33 years.
The story revolves mostly around two Liverpudlian schoolfriends, Billy, played by David Morrisey, and Icky, played by Spencer Leigh. Billy doesn't get on with either his sister or his mother and neither him or Icky have a particularly good school attendance record. The local police are out to get Billy. After getting into a dispute with another local gang Billy and Icky catch the train and run away to Wales. They're not sure where they're going in Wales, Billy holidayed there once and Wales has always been somewhere he wanted to get back to.

In light of what has been happening to some of the Olympic sports which are lottery funded I'm really not surprised that funding has been withdrawn. I reckon the lottery haven't got the money they used to have which is why they are now tightening their belts.

When autumn arrives and water temperatures drop, carp will reduce their feeding considerably. If you are planning on fishing during the colder months then there's a few important things that you should consider. The carp will normally retreat to a slightly deeper parts of the lake so fishing the margins may not be quite as good as it is during the summer months. Because the carp don't eat as much during colder months, there really is no need to pile lots of food in. So forget about lots of ground bait and pellets, and put your large method feeders away until summer arrives again. However, it's always a good idea to give the carp an incentive to come to your hook bait.

If you like your fish and chips then let me recommend arguably the best fish and chip shop in the whole of Torbay. Simply Fish is located right opposite Brixham harbour just as you come down King Street. I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal from them. They really know how to produce a really tasty battered fish.

One of my favourite swims at the Town Parks Fishery just happens to be quite snaggy to the right. The carp know whether snaggy areas are and nine times out of 10 this is where they bolt to when hooked. One of the problems with float fishing tackle around snaggy areas is that when the line is pulled through underwater foliage, the shot will often either get moved on the line, or completely ripped off. Having to reshot the line and rearrange the float every time you catch a fish can get a little bit tiresome. So I have now started using a different float fishing method which completely eliminates the need to use shot on the line.

I'm quite excited about a new set of I have purchased recently. They are manufactured by Preston Innovations and come in various different sizes and styles. The ones I have purchased are the insert dura wag adjustable loading model. If you know anything about freshwater float then you will be aware that some floats come with the weight already built into the base. The majority of the ones I have ever used require some extra shot just to bring them down to the correct depth. However, these new ones by Preston Innovations are fully weighted straight out of the packet. This means that you can simply clip them on the line and they are set up absolutely perfectly in the water. However, some people want to put some extra weight down the line, whether this be some bulk shot to take the bait down quickly, or various shot spread evenly to ensure the bait falls uniformly through the water. These floats have been designed so that you can take small increments of weight off the float in order to you to add your own weight. You simply unscrew the base and slip one of the weights off which come in the form of a small metal ring.

If you are in the UK then you may be interested in a new fishing program that starts this evening on ITV. It's called Fishing Impossible and follows three anglers travelling around the world attempting to catch fish that are considered very difficult to catch.

In this week's episode they have travelled to Canada.

I came across these a few months ago and I absolutely love them. I do a lot of method feeder fishing nowadays and really like using match mini boilies around eight or 10 mm in size. These 4 inch hair rigs incorporate a special bayonet which you simply push into the Boilie. So there's no messing around with hairs and fiddly little stops.
Check these out, they are really good

The weather wasn't particularly good today, however that often favours carp fishing as it brings them onto the feed. Today wasn't an exception and the carp were quite interested in food.

I was looking into buying one of those Water Wolf underwater cameras that you can attach your rig to film the fish whilst they take your bait. I did a quick search on the Internet and came across what I assumed was probably a slightly cheaper version of the camera. After all, Go Pro produce various cameras that differ in price. The first one I bought only cost me £90, the most recent one was nearly £300.

A couple of years ago I bought four quadruple gold coins from an online bullion dealer called Bullion By Post. The coins cost approximately £4300 at the time. The recent vote that saw us opting out of the European Union had a massive effect on gold prices. Going by today's gold prices, my coins are now worth just over £5300. I contacted Bullion by Post to find out what they would give me for the coins and they offered me just over £4600. If you were to buy the same four at today's gold price from them then the cost would be £5500. So basically if I sell my coins they are going to make nearly £900.

If like me you don't have any hand or finger movements then you will completely understand how frustrating it can be when you want to do something that actually involves holding something firmly. My childhood hobby is angling and I've been doing it since I was about nine years old. After my accident in 1986 I completely dismissed ever going fishing again and literally gave all my angling equipment away.

I've really been enjoying this new series which sees people reunited with animals that they may have rescued, or brought up from very young and then released into the wild. In some cases they come back to decades later and the animals have still recognised them and greeted them with great affection. It reminds me of a fascinating story about an elephant and a man.

I've lived in Torbay for the best part of 35 years, but I've never visited the Model Village in Torquay before. Last week my family came down to see me. My sister Bex wanted to take her five-year-old son Alex there, so we all decided to go along. The Model Village is located in Babbacombe Torquay and is very easy to find. Just drive along Torquay seafront, at the clock tower turn left and follow the road all the way up to Babbacombe and you will eventually come to the model Village.
