In light of the 2017 announcement of who is going to be knighted, I feel that this trend of giving knighthoods to anyone who manages to win more than one gold medal is cheapening this highest honour.
Nobody would argue that Mo Farah or Andy Murray are at the very top of their game. Both of these gentlemen have only achieved greatness within a few years. I don't know how much charity work they do, I can't imagine either of them has much time for charity work. Even so, the knighthood is a really massive award and in my opinion, should only be given to people who have really done something special for many years throughout their life.
I would actually suggest that people like David Beckham are more deserving of a knighthood than Mo Farah or Andy Murray. Bruce Forsyth had to wait 50 years for his knighthood. Ken Dodd has been going for God knows how long, he has also just been knighted, and deservedly as well.
